Example of a Core to Coeur group class

What’s the difference between group and livestream classes? How will I know what to expect, if other students can see my screen, and if I enjoy one structure of class over the other? Read the short post below on how we define our class terms. As always you can message your teacher directly on the Core to Coeur platform with any specific questions about what you can expect from their class.

Private Class (1:1)

A session where a teacher meets one-to-one with a client for any length of time, usually for the better part of an hour. These sessions are live and interactive, much like a FaceTime call with your teacher. Students use privates to get direct attention and feedback for their specific bodies, because they might need more scheduling flexibility and can’t make group classes, value the one hour of self-care all to themselves, or all three! Teachers sometimes open their schedule for a goal-setting sessions, similar to coaching calls too. As well, privates are great for beginners to learn the basics of a new practice in a class in which they can go at their own pace. Lastly, privates can also be with one or two people you know personally and want to work out together (in the same room as you are or remotely)!

Group Class

A group class which size is up to the teacher’s discretion- anywhere from 3–12 people- is a regularly scheduled class with remote students. If you ever had a remote conference call with a team, or a group coaching call, these classes have the same structure. You and the entire group can see each other and the teacher sees everyone. You all have the ability to see or hear one another, ask questions, enjoy real-time feedback, and create a community in class. Some of our students would rather not be seen on screen- and that is totally fine too. After check in, you can take the video component off so you can follow along without teachers or students seeing you. Additionally, you may have a newborn napping next to you, pets, or live in a loud part of a city. If at any point you feel self-conscious about the noise, feel free to mute your microphone. One last note: some students want to work out with a designated group they create themselves: cross country friends, family members, and co-workers can create “Private Groups” according to teachers’ availability. Find a few teachers you’d like to work with in this way and message them directly through Core to Coeur, or contact care@coretocoeur.com for next steps.

Livestream

An in-person class that takes place in a physical studio which the teacher makes available for others to tune in and take class from anywhere outside of the studio. The teacher will be able to see you and the rest of class, however, they will not be making adjustments or corrections to those tuning in on Core to Coeur. Students are encouraged to have a bit of experience in the movement practice. These are not pre-recorded sessions, so these classes will not be available outside their scheduled times. Note that the teacher will also be tending to an entire class that is both physically present and virtually present in the “digital studio” online. These classes are great for our budget conscious students, but if you need more personalized attention or value the group connection, we encourage you to stick to group or private classes.

Workshops

This class structure is often a series of classes taught over a designated range of time. They can be taught in any way the teachers sees fit. Here are some examples of common physical practice workshops:

  1. An introductory course to the movement practice for complete beginners taught once weekly over a span of eight weeks
  2. A workshop on overall anatomy, or parts of human anatomy, and deconstructing it over an intensive weekend classes
  3. Introduction on how to use a new prop or piece of equipment
  4. A continuing education course for advanced practitioners or certified practitioners in the field
  5. A deep dive into topics of shared interest, such as nervous system regulation, an educational workshop on balancing sedentary habits with exercise.

Core to Coeur is built on the foundation that teachers should have complete creative control on how they structure their own schedules. Some classes will fall in line with the above structures, some teachers may organize their time differently and think outside of the box. If you ever have questions, we encourage students to reach out to their teachers and ask. They are always eager to answer you and happy to facilitate your movement journey.
